Terms of service

The rules that apply when you commission work from us. Written to be read, not to be impenetrable — if anything here is unclear, ask before you commit.

1. Who you are contracting with

These terms govern work carried out by ProBook Studio (“we”, “us”), a book-services studio operating from Nigeria and working with authors internationally.

By commissioning work from us, or by accepting a quote we issue, you agree to these terms. If anything here conflicts with a written agreement we both sign for a specific project, that agreement takes precedence.

2. The services

We provide ghostwriting, editing, beta reading, cover design, interior formatting, publishing setup, book promotion, and website and landing page design. What we are doing for you is defined by the scope we agree in writing before work begins — not by anything described generally on this website.

3. Quotes and scope

Every project is quoted individually. A quote sets out the work included, the number of revision rounds, the delivery schedule, and the price. Quotes are valid for 30 days unless stated otherwise.

Work outside the agreed scope is not included. If you ask for something beyond it, we will tell you before doing the work and quote separately — you will never receive an invoice for something you did not agree to.

4. Free samples

We offer one free sample per project so you can judge our work before committing. Samples are watermarked, are produced from a brief you supply, and typically take two to three working days.

A sample carries no obligation on either side. We retain ownership of sample material unless and until you commission the full project, at which point it is covered by clause 8 like everything else.

5. Payment

Prices are quoted and payable in US dollars. Payment is split across milestones set out in your quote, and we do not require the full fee upfront. Work on a stage begins once the payment for that stage has cleared.

Invoices are due within 7 days. If an invoice is significantly overdue we may pause work, and we will tell you before we do.

Transaction and currency conversion charges applied by your own bank or card issuer are yours to bear.

6. Revisions

Your quote states how many revision rounds are included. A round means one consolidated set of feedback from you, not an open-ended series of individual requests.

Revisions cover work that does not match the agreed brief. A change of direction — a new concept, a different genre treatment, a restructured book — is new work, and we will quote for it rather than absorb it.

7. What we need from you

We need the materials, information and access agreed at the start, and feedback within a reasonable time. You confirm that anything you send us is yours to send, and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.

Where a schedule depends on your input, delays on your side move the delivery dates accordingly. We will tell you when that happens rather than quietly missing a date.

8. Ownership and copyright

On final payment, all rights in the finished work transfer to you absolutely. This includes copyright in written work, cover designs, interior layouts and website designs produced for you, and it is confirmed in writing at handover.

Two things do not transfer, because they cannot. First, third-party material licensed for your project — stock imagery, fonts — remains the property of its owner and reaches you under the terms of the licence we purchase, the record of which we provide. Second, our own general skills, methods and working files that contain no material specific to you.

Ghostwritten work is published under your name. We assert no authorship and require no credit.

9. Confidentiality

Your manuscript, your idea and the fact that you engaged us are all confidential. We do not discuss your project with anyone outside those working on it, and we do not put your work in our portfolio, in a case study, or on social media without your written permission, asked for separately.

We will sign your own non-disclosure agreement on request.

10. Timing and delays

Delivery dates in a quote are commitments we intend to keep, and we will tell you early if something is going to move rather than at the deadline.

Neither of us is liable for delays caused by events outside reasonable control — illness, infrastructure failure, or a third-party platform changing how it works.

11. Cancellation and refunds

You may cancel at any time by telling us in writing. You pay for work completed and in progress up to that point; anything paid beyond that is refunded. If we cancel — because we cannot deliver what was agreed, or capacity changes — we refund everything paid for work not yet delivered.

We do not offer refunds for completed work that meets the agreed brief simply because you have changed your mind about the project. Where completed work does not meet the brief, the revision process in clause 6 applies first.

12. Third-party platforms

We publish into accounts you own and control — Amazon KDP, IngramSpark or similar. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an agent of any retailer or distributor.

Those platforms set their own rules, pricing, review policies and approval processes, and can change them without notice. We cannot control their decisions, and we cannot guarantee sales, rankings, reviews or media coverage. What we guarantee is the work we agreed to do.

13. Limits of our liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, our total liability in connection with a project is limited to the fees you have paid us for that project.

We are not liable for lost profits, lost sales or lost opportunity. You remain responsible for the final content of your book, including factual accuracy and any claims it makes — editing is not legal or factual verification.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and disputes are subject to the courts of that jurisdiction. Before formal proceedings, both sides agree to attempt to resolve matters directly and in good faith.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your project is the one in force when your quote was accepted, and changes are never applied retrospectively to work already agreed.
